The Grape and the Heart

Grapes help and are beneficial for the heart.

Grapes for the heart. Grapes provide the same nutrients found in wine; therefore, eating grapes regularly offers the same benefits for the heart and for weight loss as drinking a glass every day with a meal.

Grapes are good for the heart because:

  • Grapes contain phytonutrients that help keep the entire cardiovascular system in optimal health:
    • They protect blood vessels, as well as the heart, from damage caused by free radicals and oxidation.
  • They contain a large amount of flavonoids, which make grapes an essential food for our cardiovascular health. The most important of all is resveratrol, the same compound that gives blueberries their powerful antioxidant properties.
  • Red grapes are richer in flavonoids than green varieties. However, regardless of their color, they are very healthy.

A handful of grapes a day is enough to maintain good cardiovascular health.
